Dave Rimington has a trophy named after him given annually to the most outstanding center in college football so this was the easiest selection of all to make the best college football team of all time. Rimington was a two-time consensus All-American in 1981 and 1982 while at Nebraska.

He was so dominant in the middle of the Cornhusker line that he was recognized as the Big 8 Offensive Player of the Year by the AP. That was just the start for Rimington’s trophy case as he won the Outland Trophy in 1981 and again in 1982 and remains the only two-time Outland winner. He also added the Lombardi Award in 1982.

Playing center for Nebraska’s option offense meant Rimington had to have the mental awareness and ability to read defenses and get the rest of the line in concert with what they had to do so it’s no surprise that he was an Academic All-American in 1981 and 1982. Rimington had the brains and the brawn and that’s why he is the best center in college football history.

He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997 and was a first-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals.
