Ted Hendricks gets the final end spot over Leon Hart, Bruce Smith and Bubba Smith. The player nicknamed The Mad Stork due to his 6-7, 220-pound frame gets the nod after being named a two-time consensus All-American in 1967 and 1968. Hendricks was a second-team All-American as a sophomore.

Hendricks finished his Miami career with 327 total tackles, the most by a defensive lineman in program history and recovered 12 fumbles. He finished in fifth in the 1968 Heisman that saw USC running back O.J. Simpson take the honor.

The Ted Hendricks Award is awarded annually to the top defensive end in college football.

Hendricks was a second-round pick by the Baltimore Colts in the 1969 NFL Draft and won four Super Bowls. He is in the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
