Charles Woodson made waves right away with the Michigan Wolverines when he won the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1995 when he finished second in the Big Ten with five interceptions. As great as that debut season was, no one could imagine what would happen two years later when he beat Peyton Manning to be the first defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy.

Michigan won a share of national championship that year when Woodson made his second All-American team and first consensus pick in addition to the Bednarik Award, Thorpe Award, Nagurski Trophy, Jack Tatum Trophy, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award

Woodson closed his Michigan career with 16 interceptions and 30 passes defended and he added 30 touches for 537 yards and five touchdowns from scrimmage. Woodson also had one punt return that helped him clinch the Heisman against rival Ohio State when he also had an interception in the end zone and a 37-yard catch to set up the Wolverines’ lone offensive score.

He was the No. 4 pick int he 1998 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.
