No Christian Hackenberg may be the best thing for Penn State this season. Not that Hack wasn’t a quality quarterback, but the Nittany Lions got too dependent on his arm to get them out of a mess, and they couldn’t protect him at all.
Another anemic offensive season in Happy Valley, combined with one of the most difficult Big Ten schedules in the conference really give little hope to Penn State for making the playoffs. One thing on their side is a fairly light road slate, but having to deal with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa in one season will make a top four ranking a fleeting wish.
The Nittany Lions will probably improve, but this schedule and breaking in a new quarterback will keep them in another Taxslayer-type bowl.
