SEC Football Spring Preview: 10 biggest questions and storylines
Will Leonard Fournette have any help?
There may not be a more talented player in college football than LSU’s junior running back. Leonard Fournette led the nation with 162.75 yards per game for 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. It’s possible he can break Henry’s one-year rushing record of 2,219 yards this season, but only if he gets some help from quarterback Brandon Harris.
In his first season as the starter, Harris completed 53.3 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns and six interceptions as the Tigers finished 11th in the SEC in passing. That won’t be good enough for LSU this year with national championship aspirations in what will likely be Fournette’s last year before declaring for the NFL Draft.
If Harris shows signs of progress in Cam Cameron’s offense, it would give LSU a passing element they’ve desperately lacked. Further, the threat of a passing attack would give Fournette more room to run wild over defenders with opposing defenses unable to put nine in the box.
