Who is Notre Dame’s QB?

There’s not a better depth chart at the quarterback position than what Brian Kelly has with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. DeShone Kizer played exceptionally well in place of the injured Malik Zaire and was two plays away from getting Notre Dame into the Playoff.

That would normally make a player the slam-dunk choice to be the starter the next year, but with Zaire recovered from his injury, he’ll have to hold off a challenge from last year’s opening day starter.

Kizer got valuable experience last year and should be considered the favorite to win the job, but as we saw at Ohio State last year, the player with the most experience doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a guarantee. Kelly really can’t go wrong, however, people said the same about Urban Meyer last year with the Buckeyes embarrassment of riches at quarterback.

Further, third-string quarterback Brandon Wimbush could be a starter at most other programs, so Kelly has to consider the possibility for a player to transfer out of the program, just as Everett Golson did last spring when Zaire passed him on the depth chart.
