Will luck be on Nebraska’s side?

The first year in Lincoln was one of heartbreak for head coach Mike Riley who saw his team lose one close game after another en route to a disappointing 6-7 record. It would have been 5-7 if not for receiving an invite to play in a bowl game despite not reaching the minimum requirements for bowl-eligibility.

Nebraska lost their first five games by a combined 13 points. They lost by five in the opener to BYU after allowing a Hail Mary, lost by three at Miami, lost by one at Illinois, by two vs. No. 21 Wisconsin and by two to No. 23 Northwestern.

But things could be turning around in favor of the Huskers after a 37-29 win over UCLA in the team’s bowl game to enter the offseason with some good vibes and momentum. The second year for Riley could approach 8-9 wins if quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. limits his interceptions and makes better decisions with the ball in his second year in the offense.
