Big 12 Football Spring Preview: Biggest question for each team
Is this Bill Snyder’s farewell tour?
Kansas State Wildcats head coach and all-around university ambassador, Bill Snyder, turns 77 in October and could be viewing the 2016 season as his last. Snyder has already lasted much longer in his second stint as the K-State head coach after coming out of a four-year retirement in 2009 but there was some talk he could have walked away after last year’s 6-7 finish.
This was his first losing season since 2005 when the Wildcats went 5-6 and led Snyder to retire after a second-straight losing season. I don’t think Snyder wanted to go out on that note and wanted to come back for one more season and a chance to go out with a winning record.
The return of quarterback Joe Hubener will go a long way toward K-State finishing in the top half of the Big 12 standings. Playmakers need to emerge on the perimeter this spring for the offense to look like it did in 2014 when Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton were getting loose in downfield and they won nine games or Snyder could be looking at back-to-back losing seasons.
The last time that happened Snyder retired. One way or the other, I think this is Snyder’s last season on the sidelines in the Little Apple and we need to cherish the time we have left with one of the greatest coaches of all-time.
