NFL Draft: 25 best first overall picks of all-time
By Gabe Encinas
The transfer from Oklahoma to UCLA served to be a pretty good move for Troy Aikman. After a stellar career for the Bruins, Aikman secured his spot as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, taken by Dallas, where he would play out all 11 years of his career.
Aikman was just your prototypical quarterback, hailing from West Covina, California, standing in at 6’4″ 200-pounds, a size that scouts drool over. In Dallas, he was the man. He continued the winning foundation of the Cowboys, delivering the team their last their Super Bowls in franchise history. In Super Bowl XXVII, a homecoming for Aikman, he was named MVP after routing the Buffalo Bills by a final score of 52-17.

Aikman was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and was also named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 1996. He eventually hung up the cleats after the 2000 season, securing his spot in the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame, boasting a 62 percent completion percentage and 81.6 QB rating, far above average.
