No. 6 – FCS Scheduling

The time has come to close the NCAA bakery and do away with cupcake football scheduling. In today’s game, FBS teams have no business scheduling FCS schools (even good ones).

With the amount of money fans are shelling out for tickets, advertisers are spending on television spots, and schools are charging for licensed merchandise at games, we shouldn’t be subjected to Alabama vs. Charleston Southern or Clemson vs. Wofford.

The arguments for keeping these games carry little weight anymore. Yes, the payout from a single game against one of these big-name schools can fund an FCS program’s entire season. Yes, the occasional upset does happen (stop cringing, Gator and Wolverine fans), but that doesn’t make up for the fact that many programs are getting a Taco-bye, while others are slugging it out with real teams (SEC…we’re GLARING at you).

There’s too much on the line and teams are separated by too little anymore for a creampuff game in November to make the difference.

Hey, every Power-5 conference has a program which probably should be in the FCS, so stick to using Kansas, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Purdue and Colorado as your patsies.
