9. South Carolina Gamecocks

This No. 9 ranking is a few spots higher than it would have ranked a decade ago before Steve Spurrier took over and took the program new heights never experienced before. Spurrier showed you can win at South Carolina with a three-year run that saw the Gamecocks win 11 games and finish in the top 8 of the final AP poll, including a high-water mark of No. 4 in 2013.

One of the primary reasons for that stretch of success was because Spurrier was able to keep the state’s top talent in the state with talents like Jadeveon Clowney, Marcus Lattimore and Stephon Gilmore. But that talent doesn’t come around every year like it does in other SEC states and they don’t have the national appeal like schools ranking higher on this list.

Coupled with the success Dabo Swinney and the rival Clemson Tigers are enjoying, the top recruits South Carolina does produce are going to be playing at Clemson and not South Carolina.
