Little Red Corvette – Texas Tech Red Raiders

Tell-Tale Lyric: But it was Saturday night
I guess that makes it all right
And you say what have I got to lose?
And honey I say
Little red Corvette
Baby you’re much too fast

A karaoke favorite, and still one of his biggest hits ever, Little Red Corvette was perfectly timed with all the lust and avarice taking place in the 1980s.

Corvettes are sleek, fast, fun to drive and watch, but not very conventional, safe or dependable. Perfect description of Texas Tech during recent years.

A fast, high-scoring, high-octane offense which dazzles fans…until they see the gas mileage their getting (particularly from their defense). Kliff Kingsbury has the offense running wild on a closed course, but when they get into traffic, things stall out.

Texas Tech is a shiny toy for Klingsbury, but at some point he’s going to have to slow down and reel in all those horses to put together a complete team. The Red Raiders may be a Corvette, but in the Big 12, someone needs to be the Jeep – rugged, dependable, and able to overcome all obstacles.
