When Doves Cry – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Tell-Tale Lyric: Maybe I’m just too demanding
Maybe I’m just like my father too bold
Maybe you’re just like my mother
She’s never satisfied
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like
When doves cry

The first worldwide mega-hit by Prince was from the chart-topping Purple Rain soundtrack, and the semi-biographical When Doves Cry speaks on many levels to listeners.

When the fiery Brian Kelly took over at Notre Dame in 2010, his red-faced angry antics didn’t take long to show themselves. Screaming at players on the sidelines, reports of abusive language and more made their way out of South Bend.

But it’s okay, because the Irish were finally winning again.

Kelly has since toned things down a bit, but his stereotypical Irish temper still seems to get the best of him at times.

The song also points to issues between female students and players at Notre Dame, a plague that isn’t confined to South Bend. It’s time to stop the anger, screaming and hurt. Everyone sees how it feels when those doves do indeed cry, and it affects us all.
