This Could B Us – Stanford Cardinal

Tell-Tale Lyric: Look me in my eyes and lie to me
Lie to me, act like I’ll believe anything
Sex on the beach and in the backseat
This could be us

One of the last hits released (for download only) by Prince before his death, This Could B Us speaks volumes about longing and regret in life.

At Stanford, the Cardinal have been trying to shake the nerd label since 2007 when Jim Harbaugh raised the level of play and national attention at Google U.  His successor, David Shaw, has continue to have the Cardinal playing at a high level in one of the nation’s toughest conferences.

Looking at the national titles won by Pac-12 neighbors USC, Shaw has to be continually telling his team “this could be us”, but for some reason it just never seems to happen. There’s always a game, a play, a mistake…something that keeps Stanford from taking that next step.

Longing and regret are probably a daily battle for Stanford, but their doing things the right way and will more than likely have their shot before all is said and done.
