Diamonds and Pearls – UCLA Bruins

Tell-Tale Lyric: If I gave you diamonds and pearls
Would you be a happy boy or a girl
If I could I would give you the world
But all I can do is just offer you my love

Diamonds and Pearls is no doubt the best song from the Album of the same title, and the theme of love and rejection of material possessions once again runs strong with Prince.

At UCLA, a football program that had been lumbering along was given new life with some new facilities, upgrades and other trappings to lure recruits away from rival USC. Added to that was lovable coach Jim Mora.

The Bruins have everything a recruit could want…except titles. Despite the improvement in play, the Bruins have yet to win a conference title since 1998, and Jim Mora’s recruiting magic seems to be losing its luster as time goes on.

Yes, UCLA can offer some diamonds and pearls, but that’s not the kind of jewelry most of these top recruits are interested in. They want gold rings, with titles and championships to accompany them.
