Delirious – Boise State Broncos

Tell-Tale Lyric: Lose all self-control, baby just can’t steer
Wheels get locked in place
Stupid look on my face

The word delirious has two distinct definitions:

In an acutely disturbed state of mind resulting from illness or intoxication and characterized by restlessness, illusions, and incoherence of thought and speech.

Or

In a state of wild excitement or ecstasy.

Prince meant the latter in his 1983 hit by the same name. Boise State fans seem to fall into the former.

For years we heard about how Boise State was robbed by the BCS system, and how they never really got their shot. Yes, the Broncos won some big games in one-off situations, but they were never forced to string together a season full of Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC, Big 12 or SEC wins.

For fans to think that program was on par with some of the top teams during their stretch under Chris Petersen can only be described as delirious fandom.

Give credit where it’s due, they came a long way in a short time. But it was their lack of playing a serious regular season schedule that sunk Boise State’s championship hopes, not the system in place. Only Auburn can really complain about that.
