No. 2 – A Better Shot at Making the College Football Playoff

The College Football Playoff is obviously here to stay, and probably soon to expand. Right now, teams in Power-5 conferences (of which, the ACC happens to be one) have an advantage over everyone else in terms of a path to the playoff.

Conference championship games and bragging rights of winning said game are a major determining factor for the College Football Playoff selection committee. Notre Dame plays one less game than most other playoff contenders, and that fact hurts them when it comes time for the committee to make their choices (just ask teams in the Big 12).

If you are a conference champ, your shot at the playoffs drastically increases, and in the ACC Notre Dame would have more than a decent shot at that championship game every season.

As the playoffs expand, winning a conference or being in the championship game will become even more crucial, and Notre Dame could find themselves locked out quite often if they remain an independent.
