4. More Disciplined Play

As stoic, calm and together as Mark Richt was on the sidelines for the most part, his teams seldom mirrored that image.

Georgia averaged 45.5 penalty yards per game in 2015, which isn’t a great or terrible number (29th nationally). But what made that number even worse was the timing and type of penalties that the Bulldogs found themselves guilty of too often.

(Want to see a Georgia fan twitch and wince? Just say the word “targeting” to them)

It seems as though Georgia’s players come unraveled and lose control at the most inopportune times, and that was never more evident than in a 2015 game against the antithesis of that type of behavior, Alabama.

Discipline isn’t just not committing personal fouls, face masks and other costly penalties, but its also playing with your head in the game at all times and not making costly mental errors.

The more Georgia got frustrated and made dumb mistakes, the more Alabama seemed to just go about rubbing the Bulldogs’ nose in it. Coming from Nick Saban’s coaching tree, Kirby Smart should focus on instilling more disciplined play that will eliminate some bad situations for the Bulldogs.
