The Florida Gators have all the makings to be a national contender, as long as they can find a suitable starting quarterback. Which they might have found in Luke Del Rio.

Del Rio’s collegiate journey to the Swamp has been a long one. He first started his college career at Alabama as a walk-on. Del Rio passed up scholarships from the likes of Oklahoma State and UCLA. So that shows Del Rio has a competitive spirit to him.

However, Alabama didn’t pan out and he decided to transfer to Oregon State. But being with the Beavers didn’t work out either which, made him transfer to the Gators.

During Florida’s spring game, Del Rio completed 10 of his 11 passes for 176 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

While the Gators haven’t named a starting quarterback yet, new team ambassador Steve Spurrier basically stated Del Rio is Florida’s starting signal caller heading into the 2016 season. If Del Rio can perform like he did in the spring game, he could lead the Gators to the College Football Playoffs this season.
