7. Issac Nauta – Georgia TE

  • Buford, GA
  • 247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 12
  • Position Ranking: No. 1

In high school Nauta was one of the most explosive tight ends in the country, and now he looks to continue his stellar play on the gridiron as he enters the college ranks. The Bulldogs already boast tremendous talent at the tight end position as junior Jeb Blazevich leads the charge with sophomore Harris Jackson at the No. 2 spot waiting in the wings.

How will Nauta fit into the equation for Georgia in 2016? Heading into preseason camp, it looks as though Nauta will have to play a complementary role to Blazevich since he likely won’t be starting. However, he can make an impact in passing downs and certain formations and especially in the red zone where he can create mismatches with his combination of size and speed. Georgia has done a nice job developing tight ends and getting them involved in the passing game under Mark RIcht and that should continue under Smart.

What does he bring to the gridiron? He is very effective as a blocking tight end and uses his 6-foot-4, 237-pound frame to take away defenders on the edge and give the quarterback extra time in the pocket. On the same token, he can use that size to get open quickly and be physical with his defenders, matching up well with them and giving the Bulldogs both a blocking and passing weapon that can allow them flexibility within their offense and give them the chance to have one of the most prolific offenses in the country.
