There’s no bigger wild card in the SEC this season than Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight. The Aggies new starter looks to rejuvenate an inconsistent Aggie passing game. Knight will have to first rejuvenate his own play which suffered the same fate in Norman.

There’s no doubt he has the physical tools to be successful. He even showed flashes of brilliance at Oklahoma, but it wasn’t shown enough. He certainly impressed at the A&M spring game completing 25-of-36 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns, while adding another on the ground.

He joins an explosive, deep offense in College Station. The offense returns maybe the best receiving corp in the nation led by Christian Kirk. He compiled 80 catches for 1,009 yards and seven touchdowns as a true freshman. Josh Reynolds, Rick Seals-Jones, and Speedy Noil are no slouches either. If they were at most other SEC schools, they would be getting number one reps.

Knight will also have a familiar face in the backfield with him. Former Oklahoma running back Keith Ford shouldn’t be viewed as a second tier runner. He was buried on a depth chart featuring Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. He brings 666 total yards and seven total touchdowns with him.

Knight should the pieces around him to be successful this year. Kevin Sumlin needs Knight to succeed or risks losing his job.
