Oklahoma Football: 5 reasons Sooners win 2016 national title
2. The Dynamic Running Back Tandem
The two-headed monster in the Oklahoma backfield complements Mayfield very nicely.
The main piece is junior Samaje Perine who looks to increase his numbers even further after leading the team in rushing last year. In two seasons at Oklahoma, he has rushed for 3,062 yards and 37 touchdowns. Last year alone, he carried the rock 226 times for 1,349 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Believe it or not, Perine had a down year last year compared to his freshman season when he rushed the ball 263 times for 1,713 yards and 21 touchdowns. That same year, he broke the FBS rushing record against Kansas when he rushed for 427 yards. It is safe to say he handles his position well.
The other half of the monster, Joe Mixon, is a sophomore who showed tremendous promise last season, rushing for 753 yards and seven touchdowns on 113 attempts. His best game of the season came against Oklahoma State when he rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
These two will be a reason the Sooners can win the title. Even though Baker Mayfield is the centerpiece of the offense, he may not be on his game during a particular contest. If that is the case they have the ability to carry the load. In addition, their dynamic skill sets provide a balance to the offense. Because of this, the Sooners can run their way to the national championship game.
