C.J. Beathard was seen as the starter ever since the departure of Jake Rudock from Iowa. The coaching staff at Iowa clearly believed in Beathard and it paid off in 2015 after Beathard helped lead the team to the Rose Bowl and a 12-2 record.
Beathard won’t wow with his arm strength but he makes great decisions and should only improve in 2016. In Iowa’s ground game oriented offense, Beathard is not asked to do much but when he has to make plays, he makes them.
Iowa returns Matt VandeBerg at wide receiver this year which should provide an instant boost to Beathard’s game. The run game will always be able to help quarterbacks at the University of Iowa, 2016 will be no different. The offensive line returns three starters which provide excellent protection for Beathard.
Iowa should once again do well in the Big Ten, most likely returning to the Big Ten Championship Game. Beathard will be a big reason for that return.
