SEC Power Rankings: No quarterback, no problem for Alabama?
- 2015 Record: 10-3, 5-3 (SEC)
- Season Opener: Sept 3 vs. North Carolina
New Georgia head coach Kirby Smart’s first season in Athens will be defined by the quarterback position. True freshman Jacob Eason is seen as the odds-on favorite to win the job in the fall. Eason has the talent to special, but does Smart really want to throw a freshman into the fire immediately?
Regardless of who starts at quarterback, whether it be Eason, Greyson Lambert or Brice Ramsey, they’ll have the benefit of handing the ball off to junior running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Chubb returns from injury and will look to continue his domination of opposing defenses. Michel is more than just a quality backup, on most other teams he would be the starter. The ground game of Georgia will elevate pressure on whoever the starting quarterback is. The receivers for Georgia are a boost as well, led by Terry Godwin and star tight end, Jeb Blazevich.
Georgia’s defensive backfield will be the strength of the defense but the front seven, though they are young, should be more than fine as the season goes on.
Georgia will challenge Tennessee and Florida for the SEC East title and just might surprise some people. If the quarterback play is even just a little bit more than manageable, then look out for the Bulldogs.
