With so much certainty surrounding the top 10 teams in the nation, here are comprehensive Big 12 power rankings, with some controversial positioning!
One of the biggest issues people have with way-too-early preseason previews and predictions is that anything can happen. The world of competitive athletics is incredibly volatile, and as we’ve all witnessed throughout late spring and into summer with the Baylor Bears, sometimes a team is ranked inside the Top 5 before previews are printed, only to have that rising star tank due to scandal and reaction just weeks before the season starts.
The AP and Coaches’ Polls both have Baylor positioned well at No. 23 and No. 21 — respectively — with Sports Illustrated ranking the Bears at No. 23 in its preseason poll, so that puts the Bears in a good position. But it’s going to be an uphill battle for first-year head coach Jim Grobe.
With that said, I think the Bears are the only team in the Big 12 (or the country) who are the college football wildcard this season; and truly, anything can happen.
With several teams in rebuilding phases, quarterback battles, and looking to seek vengeance for misfortunes in 2015, these Big 12 preseason power rankings include some obvious placements, but some very optimistic ones, as well.
