If Georgia has become Tailback-U, then it’s probably appropriate to call LSU Defensive Back-U. Some of the leagues top corners and safeties have made their way to the NFL out of Baton Rouge, including Patrick Peterson and the Honey Badger, Tyrann Mathieu.
That’s not to say LSU’s draft success has been limited to the secondary. The Tigers have also provided some top offensive talent (I’m sure you’ve heard of this Odell Beckham guy) as well as hogs on both sides of the line to the NFL.
The Les Miles era has been unprecedented regarding draft success for the Tigers, with 72 players being selected out of LSU since Miles took over in 2005, including the biggest class in school history twice – 9 players each in 2013 and 2014.
But LSU could also boast themselves as “QB busts ‘r’ us”, with 2007 first overall pick JaMarcus Russell leading the parade which includes Zach Mettenberger, Matt Flynn, Matt Mauck and Josh Booty.
