No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners

As much as many want to rank the No. 3 Sooners much lower for its 23-33 loss against the No. 15 ranked Houston Cougars, you have to give them credit where its due.

Heisman hopeful quarterback Baker Mayfield posted numbers we would expect: 24/33 for 323-yards and two touchdowns. But where the offensive difference was highlighted the most, was in the running game. Between Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, the Sooners had 26 carries for just 70-yards, and one touchdown. That says more about Houston’s defense than anything, but if the Sooners want to make sure they’re not cornered into a one-dimensional offensive game plan, it has to plan for the defensive adjustments made league-wide.

Another playoff run is tangible, but with games against Ohio State, and on the road at TCU, and Texas Tech before November, the Sooners have a tough road ahead.
