College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 3

Stanford faced a USC team on Saturday that seemed to forget that Christian McCaffrey was a Heisman finalist in 2015, allowing the speedy all-purpose back to streak free for a 56-yard TD catch and launch over the line for another first-half score. The Cardinal were relatively dominant throughout the game, controlling the clock and reducing USC’s opportunities with the ball. The Trojans managed to rack up 353 yards of offense, but only reached the endzone once in the 27-10 loss. By the end McCaffrey finished with 260 all-purpose yards, and Stanford walked away with its first conference win in 2016.
In the process Stanford kept itself on pace in the Pac-12 North. The Cardinal take on UCLA in Pasadena next weekend before a Friday-night showdown with fellow division hopeful Washington on the last day of September. With Oregon falling, that game in Seattle could decide which of the two favorites are playing in the Pac-12 Championship Game in December.
