The Virginia Tech looked like a completely different team this week in their 49-0 win over the Boston College Golden Eagles. They move up to the ninth spot in this week’s ACC Power Rankings.

The Hokies were dominant in their first ACC game of the season, on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Jerod Evans was 16 for 23 with 253 passing yards and threw five passing touchdowns. Receiver Isaiah Ford had four catches for 91 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Virginia Tech recorded 223 rushing yards on the ground. Running back Marshawn Williams led the way with 15 carries and 81 rushing yards.

The Hokies defense held the Golden Eagles to six first downs, 4 for 17 on third down efficiency, and 124 yards of total offense. They also forced a fumble and an interception.

The win was the second largest margin of victory by the Hokies since their 55-6 win over Maryland back in 2004. It was the Hokies first shutout since September 22, 2012 when they beat Bowling Green 37-0.

Next Week: East Carolina

The Virginia Tech Hokies face the East Carolina Pirates next week, the ACC’s Achilles heel of late. The Hokies have dropped the last two games to the Pirates.
