17. Navy Midshipmen

Average Home Attendance 2006-2015: 34,048 (100.1% of capacity)
Average Season Winning Percentage: .652
Seasons Under 90% Capacity: 0
Seasons Over 100% Capacity: 4

The Midshipmen have a unique place in college football as one of the three service academies playing at the top level of the sport. With a history that features two Heisman winners and a national championship 90 years ago, Navy boasts a longtime following in the sport. As a longtime independent in the sport they have consistently competed against top competition, and though they are now a member of the AAC the Midshipmen retain regular rivalries on the schedule.

Though they often play neutral-site games in front of large crowds, the Middies have consistently drawn beyond capacity at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium when they play at home in Annapolis. Though it seats only 34,000 people officially, the attendance figures regularly eclipse that number. And the fact that Navy can still fill the stands when they play at larger venues is indicative of their broader national support.

Fans of the Midshipmen are still longing for a return to their first New Year’s Six bowl since 1963. Now that they are in a Group of Five conference, they have a better shot at landing the Access Bowl bid than they did as an independent.
