The 30 Most Loyal Groups of Fans in College Football
By Zach Bigalke
30. Florida State Seminoles
Average Home Attendance 2006-2015: 76,901 (93.4% of capacity)
Average Season Winning Percentage: .727
Seasons Under 90% Capacity: 2
Seasons Over 100% Capacity: 0
Florida State has some of the most rabid fans in college football, as evidenced by the glories of #FSUTwitter and other online presence from Seminoles supporters. But they’ve stayed true to the garnet and gold in a 21st century that has hardly been as kind to the program as the 1990s were. Over the past decade fans in Tallahassee have seen the best of times and the worst of times, but they have continued to show up at 82,300-seat Doak Campbell Stadium without fail.
During two seasons over the past decade, though, Florida State failed to average even 90 percent occupancy over the course of its home schedule. The first time, a 2010 season marked by Jimbo Fisher’s first year as the head coach in Tallahassee, makes some sense. The second inexplicably came in 2015, a season after FSU won the ACC and played in the College Football Playoff.
In a way that isn’t the case at the schools above them on this list, success drives loyalty for Florida State fans. But at the same time loyalty drives success for the Seminoles, and when the fans show up they show up loud, proud, and expecting greatness from their team.
