28. West Virginia Mountaineers

Average Home Attendance 2006-2015: 56,777 (94.6% of capacity)
Average Season Winning Percentage: .656
Seasons Under 90% Capacity: 1
Seasons Over 100% Capacity: 1

West Virginia moved from the dying Big East to the Big 12 in 2012, and the adjustment period for fans has been interesting as they get used to a new set of conference rivals. That has caused the fan base to drop a bit in terms of its overall rabidity and loyalty, but a group so well-known for its couch burning proclivities in celebration of victories that the city council had to pass an ordinance prohibiting upholstered furniture outdoors was never in danger of losing its top-30 status.

Success has definitely played a role in determining just how loyal Mountaineers fans have been in turning up to support WVU on game days. When they won the Big East title in 2007 and defeated Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, fans filled Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown beyond its 60,000-seat capacity. When the team dropped to 4-8 six years later in its sophomore campaign in the Big 12, fewer than 53,000 fans showed up per home game.

But there have been more highs than lows lately for the Mountaineers, and as fans acclimate further to their new conference the attendance should normalize further. While couches are less likely to burn in the future in Morgantown, fans will find new ways of showing their loyalty to West Virginia.
