23. Tennessee Volunteers

Average Home Attendance 2006-2015: 99,069 (97.1% of capacity)
Average Season Winning Percentage: .530
Seasons Under 90% Capacity: 1
Seasons Over 100% Capacity: 2

If Volunteers fans were able to help fill a NASCAR track as part of the biggest football crowd in history, they’ve obviously got some widespread and lasting appeal. Tennessee is a team that has largely been in flux for the past decade, as Philip Fulmer’s dismissal in 2008 led to years of bouncing between coaches. Fans of Tennessee remained loyal to the Vols throughout the past decade despite the turmoil. Throughout the Fulmer period and into Lane Kiffin’s one year in Knoxville fans kept showing up consistently to Neyland Stadium.

The last year of Derek Dooley’s time at the helm coincided with the one time where average attendance fell below 90 percent of capacity, as fewer than 90,000 people came to a stadium that can seat 102,455. The hiring of Butch Jones from Cincinnati has seemed to stabilize the Volunteers, who pushed back over the 100,000 mark in average attendance in 2015. In the first two home games of the year, against Appalachian State and Ohio, Neyland Stadium welcomed more than 100,000 despite mid-major squads on the opposing sideline.

Though the longtime SEC East contender has fallen on hard times, Jones has steered them on the right path. Fans have largely stuck by the team through the pitfalls along the path between Fulmer and Jones, and it has paid off.
