The Wolverines continued their resurgence under Jim Harbaugh, opening Big Ten play in 2016 with a dominant display against Penn State. Michigan’s defense held the Nittany Lions under 200 total yards of offense. PSU running back Saquon Barkley finished with just 59 yards on the ground, while quarterback Trace McSorley threw for just 121 yards on the day. Meanwhile De’Veon Smith rushed for over 100 yards for the Wolverines in the victory, and the offense finished with over 500 yards.

Next weekend the Wolverines will host a Wisconsin team that knocked off Michigan State on the road in Week 4. Win that contest and Michigan should be 7-0 when they play the Spartans on the last weekend of October. Last week the Wolverines received one first-place vote in the AP Top 25. While pollsters will probably refrain from switching around the frontrunners too much this week, Michigan could be setting up a top-five showdown with rival Ohio State on Thanksgiving weekend.
