Group of Five: Week 4 Access Bowl Power Rankings
By Zach Bigalke
San Diego State stayed home last weekend and stayed put in a tie for third place with their fellow Mountain West favorite Boise State. Last year the Aztecs swept through their conference slate, knocked off Air Force in the championship game, and finished with 11 wins. Senior running back Donnel Pumphrey ranks first nationally in rushing yards per game, fueling an offense that is averaging more than 39 points a game.
The defense has been solid but not quite spectacular, allowing just over three touchdowns per game. Next week the Aztecs face South Alabama in Mobile before opening their league schedule with UNLV on October 8. San Diego State can already claim a major victory over California as well. The Aztecs avoid Boise State and Air Force before they likely face one or the other in this years MWC championship.
