UL-Monroe at Auburn (Saturday/3:30 pm)

Auburn was the team that just got Les Miles fired at LSU, so they’re riding high at the moment. But besides Daniel Carlson, there wasn’t any offense of which to speak from the Tigers. Gus Malzahn might be renowned as an offensive genius, but his recent Auburn teams have been unable to do much with the football. The AU defense has been critical just to reaching .500 a third of the way through the season, as they have allowed fewer than 19 points per game to opponents.

Their opponent this week is a Louisiana-Monroe squad that is no stranger to upset opportunities. When these two teams met in 2012, the Warhawks lost by just three points. They’ve knocked off Arkansas and Wake Forest (twice) in recent years. Of course, this year’s ULM isn’t as potent as those past squads. Then again, neither is Auburn. This game could be closer than expected if quarterback Garrett Smith gets into a rhythm against the Tigers D.
