Upset Watch: Possible Week 5 Mid-Major and FCS Upsets
By Zach Bigalke
Marshall v. Pittsburgh (Saturday/7:30 pm)
Pittsburgh has been an interesting team to follow all season. The Panthers started 2-0 with wins over FCS Villanova and Penn State, but then a road trip to Stillwater derailed them. Two straight losses to Oklahoma State and North Carolina by a total of eight points has buried Pitt back in the ACC field. James Conner is back after fighting cancer, and he leads a Panthers rushing attack that ranks 15th nationally. Unfortunately for Pat Narduzzi’s squad, they also give up 32 points a game to rank 95th nationally in that category.
Last weekend Marshall never had a chance against number-three Louisville. The Thundering Herd have certainly had no trouble scoring points, as they currently average over six touchdowns per game. The one problem for Doc Holliday’s crew, though, is that they concede more than 41 points per game to rank 121st in the category. In a game featuring two abysmal defenses, we could see a shootout that either side could take in the end.
