College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
After a week falling out of the AP Top 25, Oklahoma will likely get enough votes to return to the list after knocking off TCU in Fort Worth. The Sooners outgunned the Horned Frogs, but nearly blew the game as TCU made a fourth-quarter comeback that fell short. Joe Mixon ran for 105 yards and a touchdown in the win, and Samaje Perine added another 98 yards and two scores. Baker Mayfield completed more than 75 percent of his attempts for 274 yards and two TDs. And the defense, while Kenny Hill had a field day through the air, allowed just 61 rushing yards to TCU.
Oklahoma has the distinction of losing to two top-six schools in Houston and Ohio State. Both were non-conference defeats, meaning that the Sooners still have just as much opportunity as anybody else to win the Big 12. The two defeats probably mean that there’s no shot at a College Football Playoff berth this year, but Bob Stoops’ team still has plenty to play for this year. After their upset on the road, they should be rewarded with a return to the polls.
