5. Lane Kiffin

The Alabama Crimson Tide look like they’re going to be rolling into the College Football Playoff without much trouble this season. While Nick Saban is the mastermind behind the Crimson Tide’s decade-long dominance, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin deserves some credit as well.

Kiffin has taken an offense led by true freshman Jalen Hurts and turned it into a well-oiled machine. The Crimson Tide are averaging 44 points per game this season, and with that elite defense helping them out, few teams are going to have the chance to take them down, if any.

Assuming Kiffin is interested in a head coaching position again (because why wouldn’t he be?), the Alabama OC should be someone that the Longhorns reach out to. He’s a great offensive mind that has done a good job developing quarterbacks, which would be perfect for turning the promising true freshman Shane Buechele into a potentially elite player.

There’s a good chance that Saban keeps Kiffin on his coaching staff for as long as possible, but the opportunity to be a head coach at a program like Texas might be too tempting for Kiffin to pass up on.
