Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 5: The conference has a new king
The Cal Bears came one yard away from a Zach Moss touchdown and losing the game 29-28. For the first time this season, the Cal Bears not only didn’t let that happen but stopped four consecutive plays and finally played great defense.
It was the offense again that was the highlight as Cal has now shown twice they can defeat ranked teams. Their first win came against #11 Texas and now Utah. Maybe they just need to focus on these teams and not the unranked variety. As they have lost to San Diego State and Arizona State.
The Bears offense has been a huge bright spot for the team as quarterback Davis Webb has been just outstanding in each game this season. Against the Utes, he threw for 306 yards and connected on a pair of scoring strikes to Chad Hansen and Demetris Robertson. Hansen has also been on top of his game as well. On the season the receiver has 55 receptions for 754 yards and eight touchdowns.
The first half was split nearly identical down the middle. Cal led after the first quarter 14-0, but Utah made the second quarter their own as they scored 10 unanswered points and the Golden Bears had the lead going into halftime 14-10. After both teams scored touchdowns in the third and kept the battle going (21-17), Cal would put another touchdown on the board while Utah could only manage six due to a missed two-point try.
Cal will now try to build on this victory and win two in a row for the first time this season. They will play the Oregon State Beavers on the road and then against Oregon at home.
Next: Number 6. Arizona State
