College Football: Week 6 announcer pairings
By Tim Kaiser
Find out which announcer pairings will be providing the commentary for the biggest games of Week 6.
Week 6 will treat fans to four more games that pit Top 25 teams against each other, including a clash of Top 10 powers. Hurrican Matthew threatened to cancel football up and down the east coast, but as of now, it looks like the marquee games will be played.
Saturday gets started with the Red River Rivalry. Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt, Fox Sports’ top announcer crew, will broadcast the game on FS1 starting at noon on the east coast.
The ranked clashes start in force in the 3:30-time slot.
No. 25 Virginia Tech goes to Chapel Hill to play the No. 17 Tar Heels coming off their best win of the Larry Fedora-era in a game that will have major ACC Coastal implications.
College GameDay will be in College Station as No. 8 Tennesse tries to continue their season of miracles against No. 9 Texas A&M. However, CBS has the game, so Herbie and Sam Ponder are going to hop on a flight and hope the storm has cleared Miami enough to land for their night game, which it should have by then.
No. 1 Alabama puts their undefeated record on the line at No. 16 Arkansas with Joe Tessitore on the call for the 7 p.m. ESPN game.
The SEC was the Power 5 conference most affected by the hurricane. The LSU-Florida game was postponed, and both sides seem unsure they will be able to make it up. SEC Nation, SEC Network’s version of College GameDay, was supposed to be in Gainesville this weekend, but will instead broadcast out of the Charlotte studio Saturday morning. Georgia-South Carolina was pushed to Sunday afternoon. Brent Musburger and his normal SEC Network crew will call that game in the long shadow of the NFL at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Somewhat improbably the FSU-Miami game appears to be on. This seemed impossible a few days ago, but Matthew showed deference to its fellow Hurricanes and headed north of Miami. Barring surprise damage that shows itself in the light of day or teams not being able to get to the stadium, there will be football in Miami on Saturday night.
