College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
The Broncos might have allowed a couple of late touchdowns, but in the end they still walloped New Mexico on the road Friday night. Brett Rypien completed 75 percent of his 28 attempts for 391 yards and five touchdowns. Jeremy McNichols only rushed for 54 yards, but he added two scores on the ground. The defense was gashed by the Lobos’ running attack, but held quarterback Lamar Jordan in check most of the game. Up 42-7 by halftime, the defense eased off a bit in the second half but still left Albuquerque with a decisive victory.
Boise State remains the preeminent name among mid-major teams after its sustained run of success over the past decade. After falling short in Mountain West play last year, though, Bryan Harsin’s crew must prevent any slip-ups in the league in 2016. They take on Colorado State next week at home before hosting BYU on a Thursday night. The Broncos will be favored on their trips to Wyoming and Hawaii, as well as at home against San Jose State and UNLV. The regular-season finale at Air Force could be a big-stakes contest between two unbeaten teams for the division crown.
