Tennessee couldn’t finish off their comeback against Texas A&M on Saturday, falling in the second overtime against the Aggies when Joshua Dobbs threw an interception to end the game. The fact that the Volunteers were still able to come back and take the game to OT was impressive in itself, and as such pollsters likely won’t move them down too far in the Top 25 this week. The defense ultimately came up short against the Aggies, allowing A&M to amass nearly 600 yards of offense in the narrow victory.

At least this was a cross-divisional game in SEC play. Tennessee still looks like the favorite in the SEC East, and they have no time to bemoan their misfortune. Alabama looms on the schedule next week, and if they can get past that hurdle it is possible that they could take on either the Tide or the Aggies in a rematch as the 10-2 SEC East champion given the rest of their schedule. Butch Jones’ team might have a hard time making a case for the College Football Playoff unless they beat Bama next week, but there’s still a decent chance at a New Year’s Six bowl for UT.
