College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Michigan had no trouble with the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, stampeding out to a 43-0 lead by halftime and continuing to pour the gasoline on the fire in the second half. The Wolverines held on for the shutout victory in resounding fashion, and their eye-popping 78-0 demolition of Rutgers will likely earn a first-place vote or two in this week’s Top 25. The Michigan defense allowed just 39 total yards of offense to the visitors while racking up an even 600 of their own. But until the teams ahead of them start showing major flaws, this might be as far as the Wolverines can climb.
The Wolverines really don’t have anyone that looks really intimidating on their schedule before the showdown with Ohio State on Thanksgiving weekend. Jim Harbaugh’s crew gets a break next week before hosting Illinois in Week 8. The October 29 showdown at Michigan State is always an emotional rivalry game, though the Spartans look down this year. Neither Maryland nor Iowa nor Indiana will present too much challenge, leaving only the Buckeyes between Michigan and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
