College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Auburn will likely move into the AP Top 25 this week after a resounding 24-point win at Mississippi State. Gus Malzahn leaned on Kamryn Pettway to carry the rock on Saturday, and the back responded with 169 yards and three touchdowns on 39 hard carries. Sean White added 204 yards and a touchdown on just 18 attempts through the air. The Tigers’ defense held Mississippi State under 300 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers in the victory.
The early losses to Clemson and Texas A&M look better and better with each passing week that those two teams remain undefeated. Auburn has a bye week coming up to rest ahead of tough games home against Arkansas and away at Ole Miss to end October. If the Tigers can get to November already bowl eligible, their final tests will come at Georgia on November 12 and at Alabama for the Iron Bowl on November 26. After it looked like Malzahn was on the hot seat on the Plains, it looks more and more like his team merely ran into a couple of buzzsaws early.
