College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6

North Carolina couldn’t follow up the magic of its upset victory over Florida State. Instead Cinderella’s carriage turned back into a pumpkin as the Tar Heels were embarrassed 34-3 at home by Virginia Tech on Saturday. Mitch Trubisky completed just 13 of 33 attempts for 58 yards and two interceptions after looking brilliant against the Seminoles. The ground game never could get any momentum, and the Hokies wore down UNC on a wet day in Chapel Hill.
Now the Tar Heels need to regroup quickly if they hope to remain in the hunt for the ACC Coastal. They now need some help from VT’s opponents to move back up into the race. UNC immediately turns around and has to play Miami on the road next weekend. Beyond that, their toughest remaining tests are both at home against Georgia Tech and NC State. The defense has yet to hold an opponent under 20 points per game this year, meaning that Trubisky and the offense will have to rebound after the Tech debacle if they hope to have a shot at the division.
