College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
West Virginia is able to relax this week after beginning the first third of its schedule unbeaten. Two Group of Five schools rank ahead of the Mountaineers in the Top 25, largely as a result of a non-conference schedule that has kept pollsters skeptical. Dana Holgorsen’s team opened against a Missouri squad that sits at the bottom of the SEC East. They followed with wins over FCS Youngstown State and BYU before winning their Big 12 opener against Kansas State.
They also have yet to leave the friendly confines of Morgantown. That changes in Week 7 when West Virginia makes the long trek to Lubbock for a matchup against Texas Tech. By the end of October, after they’ve also played TCU and Oklahoma State, we will have a better idea of whether the Mountaineers are contenders or pretenders. Should they reach November 7-0, WVU has the advantage of playing both Oklahoma and Baylor at home.
