College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 6

The Utes looked listless for most of the first half against Arizona on Saturday night, allowing the Wildcats to storm to a 14-3 lead. It led me to erroneously project Utah out of the Top 25, figuring a loss would cause pollsters to lose confidence in Kyle Whittingham’s team. With the Pac-12 South in relative disarray, it seemed another loss (especially coupled with Stanford’s performance) would result in a drop back out of the rankings into the realm of “Also Receiving Votes” land.
Then Utah got a sack for a safety, scored on the ensuing offensive drive, and went into the locker room down by two. They came out for the second half at full energy, getting a touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter. After trading punts, Utah turned two interceptions into 10 points and began to pull away with the game.
