Group of Five: Week 6 Access Bowl Power Rankings

Against an Eastern Michigan team that had started the season 4-1, Toledo left no doubt as to which was the better team. Logan Woodside completed more than 80 percent of his passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns. Kareem Hunt gashed the Eagles on the ground for 141 yards and a score. The Toledo defense held EMU to 62 rushing yards and forced two turnovers. After the first quarter ended scoreless, the Rockets scored midway through the second quarter and never relinquished the lead to claim their first MAC win of the season.
Toledo has long been viewed as one of the better teams in that conference, yet they’ve never come close to entering the pool of Group of Five champions since their last MAC title in 2004. Their only loss this year came against BYU in a wild 55-53 shootout, but the schedule only gets tougher from here. The Rockets have three straight home games against Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Ohio to round out October. Then they take to the road to play Akron at the beginning of November. Toledo returns to the Glass Bowl for mid-November clashes with longtime nemesis Northern Illinois and Ball State. The regular season finale in Kalamazoo against Western Michigan will likely decide which team wins the division title and plays for the league crown in Detroit.
