Group of Five: Week 6 Access Bowl Power Rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Air Force followed up its big service-academy win over Navy by getting upset in Laramie and dropping out of the ranks of the Group of Five unbeaten. Against Wyoming, Nate Romine completed just six of 19 passes, gaining 188 yards and getting two scores but also tossing three picks. It was interesting to see the Falcons depend so much on their quarterback’s arm, given they are in the top ten in rushing nationally. As a result of the game plan Air Force was ultimately outgained on the ground by 40 yards, and lost both the turnover and time of possession battles.
Troy Calhoun’s team should be able to regroup and return to winning ways through the rest of October. Before the end of the month they play New Mexico and Hawaii at home before a Friday-night game on October 28 at Fresno State. Boise State is now a game ahead in divisional play, while Wyoming is now effectively two games up on the Falcons. Like Houston, the Falcons are looking at a situation where their fate is largely out of their control at the moment. Should things fall into place, though, they do have the advantage of playing Boise State at home to end the regular season.
